RAGE was such a disappointment

A good while ago, I purchased RAGE on Steam. As usual, it was a good deal then. I’m a sucker for post-apocalyptic games like Fallout 3, New Vegas, STALKER-series and the Metro-series.

I wanted to try something new. I haven’t read any reviews of RAGE and I didn’t have any preconception against or for it.

It was a huge disappointment.

The graphics are good when textures aren’t loading. The textures are loading whenever I turn around too quickly. The game seems to have a good story and the gameplay elements seem to be playable, however…

It reeks of being a console game. It already started in the menus, and it felt crippling. It feels like the PC-version is just a second class citizen, just like the GTA games.

The game is too simple, no advanced inventory. You loot the enemies by pressing a button. There seems to be no conception of gravity, so you can gather everything and anything that blinks. And yes, all items you can interact with blinks. Even in the dark. I guess it’s just another console feature.

And what’s up with all the invisible walls? Seriously, I can’t jump over a sofa?

And the bandits? Animations are good, but they are just plain stupid.

The game feels like it’s been designed around being very, very simple and forgiving for new and inexperienced players. It also feels like certain elements of the game have been shelved if favor of something simpler.
